The celebration is primarily a new Celtic fire festival, midsummer representing the midst of summer, and also the shortening with the days on the gradual march to winter. Midsummer is traditionally celebrated on either your 23rd or 24th associated with June, although longest morning actually falls on the Twenty-first of 06. The importance of the afternoon to our forefathers can be traced back many thousands of years, and many rock circles and other ancient monuments are usually aligned on the sunrise on Midsummer's Day. Probably the most famous position is that with Stonehenge, where the sunshine rises within the heel stone, framed by the giant trilithons in Midsummer morning.
